The literacy rate of a country is the thing that plays a major role in the economic development. The literate people are not as ignorant as illiterate people. This is mainly because of the fact that they can read various documents that require signatures. This will help them to be able to make sure that they cannot get cheated. The illiterate people on the other hand, will not have enough ability to read all these documents and that can lead to various problems.
There are several methods that can be used to help in increasing the literacy levels. The school education of kids should be concentrated a lot. This will ensure that all the kids up to a certain grade are educated. Compulsory education up to a particular class is important and this should become a policy of the government. All the governments should also make sure that the education becomes a fundamental right of the people. This will again ensure that all the people are able to have adequate literacy to at least read and write.
The government should also take up the adult education in a very big way. This is one of the main aspects that is lacking in many countries. Though the governments are trying to educate the children, the education of the older people is not really concentrated upon. This is because of the fact that the governments do not have the resources or the time. Even if they do have the resources, many people in the government feel that the adult education is not important. In reality, the adult education is as important as the other education. When awareness is created in the communities and societies about the need to learn to read and write, the literacy levels will improve drastically in all countries where it is lacking.
